Quinn Levine Rose, owner of Quinnie’s in Ghent, taps Rachael Petach, a local liqueur producer, for a Hudson Valley twist on a classic Last Word, a pre-Prohibition equal-parts classic cocktail.
The cocktail: Ya Heard
The inspiration: “Ya Heard is a riff on the Last Word and I wanted to New York ade alcohol so I used C. Cassis as it’s super local. Rachael Petach is actually a friend of mine and have her since the beginning, watched that business grow which has been wonderful and I’m a huge supporter and love her product. Then I heard of Supergay vodkaand so I had those two ingredients and wanted it to be refreshing almost kind of like a Cosmopolitan. So I just used the backbone - the specs - of the Last Word and the inspiration of the New York based alcohol. It’s basically just refreshing Cosmopolitan vibes meets the Last Word. I love using dry vermouth as well. This is just Dolin dry vermouth.
For the build: Add 3/4 ounce each of Supergay vodka, C. Cassis, dry vermouth, lemon juice and just 1/2 ounce of simple syrup to a shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled. Pour into a coupe and garnish with a Luxardo cherry.
