Why us?
Social media influencers are often paid to play and crowdsourced dining reviews are hard to trust — so quality opinions matter. You’ve watched reels and saved restaurant lists, but you don’t really know which spot is right for you or your crew. Founder, Susie Davidson Powell, has written about food and drink for over a decade, reviewing restaurants and bars across the Hudson Valley backed with regular visits to pace-setting places in London, NYC, Miami and L.A. and sharing must-hit lists and new discoveries with industry friends. It makes it easy to see the makers, chefs and bartenders innovating upstate and to direct people to classic gems or places raising the bar. Think of the Dishing team as your inside connection sharing where we’d take you to lunch, drinks, or recommend for dinner whether you’re local or in town for an occasion. We know tiny spots in the back of bodegas, special places worth a drive, kitchens open past 9pm (crucial intel upstate) and where to vibe to resident DJs. Some places are cool. Some are unassuming. Not all are new—but they might be new to you.

Even with lockdown in the rearview mirror, dining trends have changed. People eat earlier and stay home more while research data shows a loneliness epidemic remains high. Restaurants can count on fewer walk-ins and higher ingredient costs, along with hiring and staffing strains, even with increased national awareness of issues faced by the industry. As an impact platform, we’re aiming to change course and connect the dots. We invite you to Sit With Us™ through midweek family-style meals and immersive Sound Seasoning™ collabs bridging culture and community and blending curated sounds x tastes. From the #MeToo movement to the legacy impact of the lockdown, we’ve seen restaurants and bars working to improve workplace culture and support staff health and mental health. National and international mental health awareness campaigns have expanded a mix of online resources geared to hospitality worker wellness. Raise the Bar is our commitment to supporting broad industry wellness through online health resources, sponsored wellness classes (sound healing, ergonomic exercises) for hospitality pros, as well as panel talks to expand conversations around business and culture.
