Cafe Euphoria
225 River Street, Troy facebook/cafeeuphoria/ IG: @cafeeuphoria518
We like it for: Coffee, smoothies, non-alcoholic cocktails, inclusive community, thrift shop; drag brunch every 3rd Sunday of the month.
Must try: Breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, tofu rice bowls, kimchi gyoza, miso soup, Liquid Assets coffee
The Vibe: Sunny cafe with high ceilings, big storefront windows, sidewalk tables and a warm welcome
Sound: Quiet, conversational
Style: Coffee shop with small thrift store in a light, airy storefront space. Relaxed place to hangout; sidewalk tables within raised view of the river
This welcoming cafe was founded by Atsushi Akera, a trans activist and RPI professor, as a worker-owned, brick-and-mortar cafe-meeting space for a trans and gender-nonconforming collective that started online during the pandemic. In its high-ceilinged space on River Street at the top of antiques row, Cafe Euphoria has become a bright, airy community hub for all with a lineup of open mic nights, drag brunches, meetups and peer support events updated on their online calendar each week. Cafe Euphoria’s kitchen, led by Akera, serves a mostly vegan-vegetarian inspired menu of comfort food influenced by Akera’s Japanese heritage; Liquid Assets coffee, ice creams, fruit smoothies and mocktails, all perfect to enjoy at inside or the sidewalk tables on a warm day. Dinner service is offered Thursday to Sunday and is peacefully slow since staff cook items to order.
Parking: Metered street parking.
