LA HORA DEL VERMOUTH: The Dishing x STABLE GATE WINERY

La hora del vermut — vermouth hour — is a Barcelona tradition, usually midday-ish, when you stop what you're doing and drink a glass of vermouth over ice, maybe with a sliver of citrus and some olives, chips, tinned fish, definitely a gilda or two (those briny little skewers of olive, pepper, and anchovy) that are arguably the perfect bar snack. Nobody is in a hurry. That's the point.

But vermouth hour is flexible, sometimes falling later in the day or a pre-dinner drink and snack. So we're taking a little Euro-inspo and turning it into a Hudson Valley tradition this summer. After a busy weekend, join us on the early side of a Monday night where The Dishing is hosting la hora del vermut at the woman-run Stable Gate Winery in Castleton. The draw is Stable Gate’s bittersweet Dionese's vermouth — made right there on site — and their own bittersweet aperitif, a rival for Campari, and perfect lengthened with soda over ice. But the tasting room has wine flights, NY-made cider and beer, snacks and just beyond the gates are the neat rows of their 2 acre micro-vineyard and a paddock with rescue horses.
